Taxes in Slovenia
Legal entities registered in Slovenia or foreign companies – whether from other EU member states or from third countries, are eligible to apply for a VAT registration number in order to receive a tax refund in Slovenia if the company pays VAT in Slovenia.
Corporate income tax
One of the main taxes that business entities are required to pay is on the profits of legal entities. Resident enterprises are required to pay a fee to the budget on all profits from their entrepreneurial activities. The corporate income tax rate in Slovenia is 19% - effective from 1 January 2017.Income tax in Slovenia is always calculated for the previous business year, that is 1. January to 31st. December.
Withholding tax
The tax on dividends is 25%, but this only applies to tax residents of Slovenia (important: the received tax number in Slovenia does not mean the tax residence of Slovenia yet). Financial reports
Companies operating in Slovenia are required by law to file annual financial statements.
The filing of financial statements in Slovenia is regulated by the Companies Act, the Accounting Act, and other regulations.
Slovenia companies, whose shares are traded on the stock exchange, use International Financial Reporting Standards, but small and medium-sized businesses use national standards.
The annual financial statements are submitted in Slovenia to the Commercial Register (RCS).
The maximum deadline for submitting reports is seven months after the end of the reporting financial year. Within six months, a meeting of shareholders (owners) must be held, approving the annual report, after which a month is given to submit the report to the register.
